Install instructions

Installation and use is easy. Just unzip the files to a folder of your choice and double click rogue_runners.exe.

When you start the game first time you will see a window similar to the one shown below. This is because we didn't want to pay 300$ for digital signature on a free game. Just click "More Info" and then "Run Anyway". See below:





Getting Started

To start the game:

  1. Download and unzip the Rogue Runners - The Cavern Quest zip package.
  2. Run the executable file in the game directory.
  3. From the main menu, select 'Play' to begin the character and weapon selection process.
  4. After both players have made their selections, choose an arena and start the match.

Controls

Game Play

In the heart of our game, players embark on a strategic and thrilling journey that unfolds over five intense rounds, each beginning with the critical choices of character and weapon selection. Initially, players are presented with the opportunity to choose from a variety of characters, each boasting unique abilities and strengths, tailored to different play styles. Following this, the weapon selection phase allows players to arm their characters with magical and explosive armaments, setting the stage for strategic gameplay. As each round commences, competitors clash in dynamic arenas, utilizing their chosen gear and skills to outmaneuver and outwit one another. The victor of each round is celebrated, and then it's back to the arsenal, where players can reconsider and adjust their weapon choices based on the unfolding dynamics of the match. This cycle of selection, combat, and victory repeats across five rounds, culminating in a dramatic finale where the ultimate champion is declared, marking the end of a fiercely contested battle of wits, strategy, and skill.

Characters

 

Thieve, Borodir: Master of shadows and silent whispers, Borodir moves unseen among the realms of men and monsters alike. His skill in thievery is matched only by his sharp wit, making him a formidable ally or a dreaded foe. As his nature he will steel gold from opponent if they meet.


Elf Warrior, Garmael: Garmael, with her roots deep in the ancient woodlands, wields the bow and blade with unparalleled finesse. An elf warrior of noble heart, she fights to preserve the balance of nature against encroaching darkness. Has magic abilities. Will shoot icy-fireballs which freeze water and opponents.


Knight, Eldarion: Clad in shining armor, Eldarion stands as a bulwark against the tide of evil. His valor and strength are tales sung in the halls of kings, a knight whose loyalty to justice is as unyielding as his steel.


Wizard, Varian: Keeper of arcane secrets, Varian wields the elements as a composer wields notes. His magic dances at his fingertips, weaving spells of protection, destruction, and enchantment with ease and grace. Has magic abilities. Will shoot icy-fireballs which freeze water and opponents. Can teleport at will.


Peasant, Gilbert: Underestimate Gilbert at your peril, for within this humble peasant beats the heart of a lion. Resourceful and resilient, he proves time and again that heroes come from the unlikeliest of origins.

Troll Reaver, Grom: Grom, with his towering frame and fearsome visage, is a terror to behold in battle. Yet, this troll warrior champions the cause of his beleaguered kin, seeking a place of honor and peace for his people.


Darktroll, Arya: Arya, a princess not confined to towers or delicate silks, wields her wit and sword with equal skill. Her quest is one of liberation—not just of her realm, but of the strength that lies within oneself. Fierce and strong will hit her opponent if they meat.

Arena

Beneath the realm of the seen, in a cavernous labyrinth untouched by the sun's grace, lies the arena. This dungeon, ancient and whispering of untold tales, calls to the brave and the reckless alike. Its corridors, carved from the very bowels of the earth, are a tapestry of danger and opportunity. Boulders, remnants of the dungeon's violent birth, lie in wait to crush the unwary. Bedrock, impervious and eternal, marks the boundaries of this subterranean world, challenging adventurers to find their path through less formidable barriers.

Dirt, coarse and yielding, holds secrets and treasures for those willing to sift through its grains. Veins of gold, gleaming in the scarce light, tempt with promises of wealth beyond measure, for those daring enough to extract them. Water streams, lifeblood of the deep, carve their paths through the rock, a boon and a hazard. Their waters can quench the thirst of the weary or, unleashed, become torrents to drown the unwary in flooded caves.

Deadly bats, silent shadows in the dark, flit through the air. Their bite is the kiss of death, a reminder of the ever-present danger in the shadows. Yet, amidst the peril, hope gleams—a pick axe, forgotten by time, lies in wait. Its discovery lends strength to weary arms, making the task of tunneling through the earth a swifter endeavor.

This arena is not merely a place. It is a crucible, where fate is determined by skill, wit, and the will to survive. It is a call to adventure, a challenge to be met. Will you heed the call?

Dirt Easy to dig.

Boulder Cannot dig but you can push these and they will roll easily.

Rock This is bedrock material. Hard to dig thru.

Gravel This is gravel. You can dig thru but it's harder than plain dirt.

Brick This is solid brick wall. Very hard (but not impossible) to dig thru. You won't see any brick walls in random generated maps.

Gold Each piece of gold is worth 500 in cash

 Diamonds Each diamond is worth 1500 in cash

Pick axe The more pick axes you have the faster you can dig thru dirt and rocks.

Medkit This is a medkit. You can use it to fillup your health during game. use it like a weapon.

Bat These will fly around the caves. Mind you, they will bite you if you bump into them.

 Ice Dragon A dangeroud enemy. These also fly around caves and also cough ice balls which will freeze you on your spot if hit. Be aware!

Big Dragon This is a big red dragon with heaps of fire shooting out of its mouth. Watch out!

Water stream Water streams are tricky. Water will flow and fill empty

Ice Ice. Not that hard to dig thru.

  Bubblegum This is bubblegum. It's not very hard to dig thru.

Teleport This is a teleport gate. Player entering a teleport is quickly cast to another teleport. Even mortals can use this.

Weapons

You get to buy your weapons from the Armory. Be wise in you selection. You can only carry a few items at time unless you buy a backpack or two. Collecting gold and diamonds is vital for getting better weapons for next round.

Small Bomb 

The Small Bomb, a subtle whisper in the arsenal of destruction. Crafted from shadow and malice, it waits silently for its moment. When unleashed, it erupts in a modest yet deadly embrace, shattering stone and bone alike. Ideal for the tactician who values precision over grandeur, it carves a path through enemies with a quiet fury, leaving chaos in its wake.

Big Bomb 

Majestic and terrifying, the Big Bomb is the herald of obliteration. Its fuse, once lit, counts down to an explosion that engulfs corridors in a roaring inferno. Walls that have stood the test of time crumble, and adversaries are reduced to memories. Its thunderous declaration of power echoes through the dungeons, a testament to the might wielded by its bearer.

Scatter Bomb 

The Scatter Bomb, a chaotic orchestra of destruction, releases a multitude of lesser explosives in a wide embrace. Each fragment, though smaller, carries the wrath of the storm, tearing through the caverns with indiscriminate fury. This weapon does not discriminate; it annihilates, making it a fearsome tool in the hands of those who command the chaos.

Fireball 

Summoned from the deepest furnaces of the underworld, the Fireball is a comet of raging flame. It arcs through the air, a shooting star foretelling doom, and upon impact, it blooms into a sun, incinerating all within its reach. The dungeon, with all its shadows, offers no refuge from its wrath, as it turns stone to molten rivers and foes to ash.

Cross Bomb 

The Cross Bomb, a masterstroke of strategic warfare, explodes in a cardinal dance of devastation. Its blast, precise and geometric, extends with lethal grace to the north, south, east, and west. It is the executioner's blade, cutting a swath through enemies in a cruciform of ruin. For those who seek to balance artistry with annihilation, it is the weapon of choice.

Mega Bomba 

Behold the Mega Bomba, the apex of explosive dominion. A colossus among bombs, its detonation is an event, a cataclysm wrapped in flame. It leaves nothing but a void in its aftermath, a silent testament to what once was. Mountains bow, and the earth trembles at its fury, making it the ultimate instrument of destruction for those who dare to wield such power.

MINE

Behold the Mine, a stealthy guardian of the ground. Hidden from sight, it awaits the unwary with a patient silence. When triggered, its explosion is sudden and devastating, reshaping the landscape in an instant. It is a silent watcher that demands respect, a hidden peril that secures territories with ruthless efficiency.

BAT

The Bat emerges as a simple yet formidable tool of combat. With each swing, it delivers justice with a resounding crack, capable of defending or striking down foes with equal prowess. It is a primal extension of its wielder’s will, a relentless enforcer of swift retribution. Bats will fly randomly so be a ware

FLAME THROWER

The Flame Thrower, a torrent of unbridled destruction. It spews forth a roaring stream of fire, consuming all in its path with relentless hunger. The air crackles with heat as the flames dance wildly, transforming spaces into infernos. It embodies the raw power of fire, wielded by those who dare to tame such a ferocious beast.

BUBBLE GUM BOMB

The Bubble Gum Bomb, a whimsical weapon that belies its chaotic potential. Upon detonation, it unleashes a sticky expanse of vibrant, bubblegum pink that ensnares everything. What begins as a playful pop expands into a trapping mesh, rendering foes helplessly immobile. It's a playful twist of fate, turning the battlefield into a bizarre spectacle.

HACK

Hack, the silent infiltrator of the digital age. With a few keystrokes, it breaches defenses, sowing chaos in circuits and wires. Information flows like a torrent, bending to the will of the hacker. It’s a tool of the modern warrior, wielding not a sword, but a laptop—a testament to the power hidden in ones and zeros. The more you have these the faster you dig.

SHOES

Shoes, the silent accelerators. More than mere footwear, they are engineered for the exceptional. Each step taken is amplified, propelling the wearer with enhanced speed and agility. In the dance of combat or escape, these shoes grant an edge, a burst of swiftness to outrun danger or close in on victory. The more you have the faster you run.

ARMOR

Armor, the stalwart defender. It rises as a bastion against the onslaught of blows. Forged from the toughest materials, it offers sanctuary amidst chaos, a shell under which one can rally. In the heat of battle, it serves as the final barrier, a protector that shields the spirit as much as the flesh. The more you have the lesser a stroke will affect you.

BACKPACK

The Backpack, a trove of possibilities. It is more than a container; it is a companion on the journey, holding tools, secrets, and survival gear. Versatile and resilient, it ensures readiness for any scenario, supporting its bearer with silent, steadfast reliability through every challenge. You can carry up to 20 items per a bagpack.

MEDKIT

The Medkit, a beacon of hope in dire times. It holds the power to mend, to restore the wounded back to fighting strength. Each item within is a lifeline, from bandages to antiseptics, a collection of remedies that speak of care and recovery. In moments of peril, it stands as a testament to resilience and the will to persevere. Use this like a weapon to heal back to full health.

Map Editor

The Map Editor is an intuitive tool designed for Rogue Runners, allowing you to craft and customize your own maps. With an easy-to-use interface, you can place a variety of map elements to create the perfect setting for your runs. Here's how you can use the Map Editor to bring your maps to life:

How to Use Map Editor

  • Placing Elements:
    • Use the keys Q, W, E, R, T, Y, U, I, O, P, A, S, D, F, G, H, and J to select different elements from the sidebar and place them onto the map.
  • Moving Around:
    • Navigate around the map using the arrow keys to find the perfect spot for your elements.
  • Positioning Players:
    • Press Z to place Player 1 and X to place Player 2 on the map.
  • Saving and Loading:
    • Once you're satisfied with your map, press F8 to save your creation.
    • To load a previously saved map, press F9.
  • Additional Controls:
    • To clear the current map, press C.
    • To exit the editor, simply press Esc.

Remember, the Map Editor is a powerful tool that provides endless possibilities for creating challenging and engaging maps for you and your friends. Experiment with different layouts and have fun making your own unique Rogue Runners experience!

License Agreement for Rogue Runners - The Cavern Quest

This License Agreement ("Agreement") is made between Team Nallet, the creator of "Rogue Runners - The Cavern Quest" ("the Game"), and You, the user of the Game.

1. Grant of License Team Nallet grants You a non-exclusive, non-transferable, limited right and license to download, install, and play the Game solely for personal, non-commercial purposes, strictly in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.

2. Restrictions You agree not to:

  • Copy, modify, or create derivative works based on the Game;
  • Rent, lease, lend, sell, sublicense, distribute, transmit, or otherwise transfer the Game;
  • Use the Game for any commercial purpose, or for any public display (commercial or non-commercial);
  • Attempt to decompile, reverse engineer, disassemble, or otherwise reduce the Game to a human-perceivable form;
  • Remove any copyright or other proprietary notices from the Game;
  • Transfer the rights to the Game to someone else without prior written consent from Team Nallet.

3. Intellectual Property The Game is protected by intellectual property laws and treaties. The Game is licensed, not sold. This Agreement grants you no rights to use such content other than as part of the Game. All rights not expressly granted herein are reserved by Team Nallet.
